One of the most famous video game production companies in the world, Nintendo, has begun distributing the Wii Mini gaming console in Europe, which was previously launched on the market.
Nintendo Wii Mini: Features
The grandson of the now legendary “Wii” and daughter of the perfected “Wii Family Edition,” the latest addition to the Nintendo family, is presented as a lighter and more economical version of the two previously mentioned consoles.
Hardware and Software
The same hardware parts, specifically the processor compartment and video card. Module Wi-fi absent (as in general any possibility of making a connection to the Internet, completely abolished on this version), drive for DVD insertion of game style ” PSONE “, and no video connection compatible with the standard 480p ( 480i in this case) as in the previous models. The absence of that small “p” seems insignificant, but you will notice how the overall quality of the graphics is lower.
Minor dimensions, yes, but honestly, after being handled and tested, we can say that the “mini ” is much better than the series of shredding hardware and software that this poor console had to endure at the hands of its experienced engineers.
Opening the pack in perfect ” Nintendo Style ” (minimal in its red/black graphics), surrounded by words to warn of the lack of the Wi-fi module, we find confirmation of the last observation: it changes little if not what is missing ” inside ” the Wii Mini, the same bundle of previous versions (identical equipment): Wii Mini, Wii Remote Plus controller, two ” AA ” batteries, rubber case for the controller, Nunchuck, massive power supply with cable, sensor bar, ” AV ” cable ” With Scart adapter and the usual manual kit/package of warnings / cutting Nintendo Club.
The console, unlike previous versions, claims to be ” stretched out. ” Its shape with triangular shoulders makes it impossible to use inclined, inconvenient given the type of optical reader used with the opening of the top door (another step behind the precursors).
The predominant colors are black and red, and the console is slightly smaller than the classic Wii. On the upper part, there are the ON/OFF and OPEN keys located on the two corners below the opening limit of the reader unit. On the back side, the essential connectors are located: power supply, AV, sensor bar, and a single USB socket.
The material from which it is composed is vaguely reminiscent of the one used by the Japanese house for the first versions of the Game Boy, opaque plastic that yields rather negative feedback due to its air of being of little value and not very compact in the hand.
Graphics
Turning it on, you immediately understand what we meant when we talked about “poor graphics.” You’ll notice it immediately if you’ve played on a Wii or Wii Family Edition. The producers note high compatibility with most games developed for the two previous consoles. Still, quietly, practically all the games made for Wii are great, even on the Wii Mini.
Of course, forget about the possibility of playing online, which is not supported for any game in any way.
Another negative aspect is Nintendo’s decision to restrict this console further, making it incompatible with all the games still in circulation for the GameCube, which is certainly not appreciated by many.
Nintendo Wii Mini: Conclusions
How to define it? In our opinion, we are ahead of a product that will not make any furrow in the world of home video games. Poor quality of materials (although this would not matter), backward compatibility with GameCube is abolished, network connection is absent, and graphics are limited due to the only possible connection type.
